Principal's Message

We are off to a wonderful 2019-2020 school year!  Our amazing staff thanks you for partnering alongside us.  Together we can help our students build character and be successful academically.

Last school year, Anthony Elementary was recognized as a 2019 State of Kansas School of Character.  In addition, we were also recognized as a 2019-2024 National School of Character. This process allowed us to reflect on our character building program and all the great things we are doing here at Anthony.  In addition, it required our staff to reflect and determine the next steps in our character program. This year we will focus on two character traits that we believe are important for all of us: respect and responsibility.  You will hear these words a lot this year, from both staff and students. Please take time to ask your child about what these words mean to them and what do these character traits look like in a person.

Academically we are focusing on our literacy rate, which will be indicated by students reading at or above grade level.  We are going to achieve this by fully implementing a balanced literacy program into our curriculum schedule. Guiding reading, interactive read alouds and phonics instruction are all being incorporated into the daily schedule.  Please encourage your child to read at home or read a book together.

As most of the community already knows, Thornton Street will be under construction for most of the school year. Please use Marion Street to exit the parking lot. This will help keep traffic off Evergreen Street while we have students walking home.

Please mark Thursday, September 19th on your calendar!  We will be holding our annual Anthony Family Fun night! We will have free food, games, bounce houses and more!  It will be from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Anthony.

Is your child’s Thursday folder a little lighter this year?  In an effort to use less paper, we will be utilizing a program called “Peachjar.”  This program allows us to mass distribute newsletters and fliers without having to print them off for Thursday folders.  It is very important that you keep your email address, phone number and home address up to date in order to receive important information from school.

If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the front office at 913-684-1500.
