It’s hard to believe our 2016-17 school year has come to a close. At our Anthony Night at Cody Park, our staff served approximately 400 hot dogs, and we had an outstanding time connecting with families. Also, the Leavenworth Community Art Show was a huge success with lots of work being done behind the scenes by Mr. Waldron. I know I marveled at many of the outstanding projects completed by our students. As well, we held our Spring Clothing Drive recently which is led by Ms. Crawford and other Anthony teachers. As we finished up the year, we held our 4th Quarter Awards Assembly, PBIS Event at Cody Park, and our annual 5th Grade Graduation/Science Fair.
For new Anthony Families, I do want to share some information about myself. My wife and I have been Leavenworth community members since joining the USD 453 team in 2014. I served as the Anthony Assistant Principal/Curriculum Specialist during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years and have been Principal of Anthony Elementary since the start of the 2016-17 school year. Prior to coming to Leavenworth, I taught 5th Grade in Piper Public Schools as well as both 3rd and 4th Grade in Emporia Public Schools where I also earned my English Language Learner Endorsement. In 2010, I was fortunate to be selected by the National Endowment for the Humanities as a Summer Scholar studying African American Political History in the K-12 Classroom. Outside of our school family, my family and I enjoy spending time doing a number of activities. Whether it is taking our dog, Winston, to Riverfront Park or going to the Farmer’s Market in Downtown Leavenworth, we have really enjoyed what the community has to offer. My wife, Sarah, and I are also Husker fans and make it up to Nebraska as much as possible for football, basketball, and baseball games. At home, we love to cook and try new recipes though Sarah is definitely the chef in the family.
As a reminder, the Anthony Main Office will close for Summer Break beginning on June 2. The office will be closed until the office staff reports back in mid July. Please contact Leavenworth Board of Education District Office at (913) 684-1400 if you have questions during this break.
From Mr. Kessler, Ms. Marta, Ms Bri, and myself, we wanted to thank you for an outstanding 2016-2017 school year. We are looking forward to many great things to come in 2017-2018 from our Anthony Community. As always, please feel free to reach out to us with any questions (913) 684-1500 leading to next year.
